About Martin
A little bit of background
Martin was born on Sept 8th 1971. He’s somewhat left-handed.
He trained at Central School of Speech and Drama. In his mid teens Martin started leaning away from an assumed future in sport (he was a successful squash player with the county squad) and more towards the idea of becoming an actor. This demanded a new level of academic commitment in order to acheive the grades required to gain admission to the highly respected Central school.
During this time he was regularly participating in amatuer productions with the Youth Action Theatre in Teddington, including an exhange trip to Kiev in Gorbachev’s USSR. During his time at Central he recorded voiceovers for C4’s ‘Passengers’ series, and on leaving college immediately found work in several productions at the National Theatre. He has a passion for music and is an authority on soul and jazz from the 60’s and 70’s, although his vinyl collection encompasses a much wider range.
About this Website
This is the Official Martin Freeman website. That is to say it is created with his knowledge, and indeed blessing. It doesn’t mean he agrees with or endorses everything that may be said here. In fact, he’s too modest to ever have thought of creating a website about himself.
You can read the website privacy policy here.
The Author
It may interest people to know that this site is created by one of Martin’s brothers. Jamie. That’s me. Therefore you can be fairly sure that I’m in posession of facts straight from the horse’s mouth. Or from Mum, whichever is the quicker! While we’re on the subject of family, another of his brothers, Tim, had a fantastic band called Frazier Chorus. They claim 6 entries in the Guinness Book of Hit Singles.
